StatusQueen's Unlock PDF tool removes the password protection from a PDF — provided you know the password. We don't crack passwords; we just strip the encryption layer using your supplied password and return a normal PDF that opens without prompting. The document content is unchanged.
How to unlock a PDF
- Drop your password-protected
.pdffile into the upload area, or click choose file. - Type the password. Use the eye toggle to verify what you typed if it looks complicated.
- Click Unlock PDF. The unlocked file downloads with the password removed.

- Tools that don't accept encrypted PDFs. Many merging, splitting and editing tools refuse password-protected inputs. Unlock first, then run them through.

What gets preserved
- Original quality. We strip the encryption layer without re-rendering — pages, hyperlinks, fonts, and resolution come through bit-identical.
- Page count. Every page in the source remains in the unlocked output, in the same order.
- Searchable text. Text-based PDFs stay searchable and copy-pasteable.
- Form fields and bookmarks. Both survive intact — only the encryption is removed.
Limitations
- You must know the password. We don't run brute-force attacks; if you forgot the password, there is no recovery — modern PDF encryption (AES-256) is mathematically unbreakable without it.
- Owner-only restrictions (PDFs that open without a prompt but disallow printing or copying) need the same password — supply whatever password you have.
- 50 MB max per upload. Larger files? Run them through our Compress PDF tool first.
Privacy and security
Your PDF and password are uploaded over HTTPS, processed on our server, and removed automatically after five minutes — or immediately when you click Delete file from server on the result screen. You'll get an "Incorrect password" error and the PDF stays untouched on our server until cleanup. Just try again with the right password.
How big can my PDF be?
Up to 50 MB. There is no page-count limit — unlocking is fast even for hundreds of pages.
Will the page quality drop after unlocking?
No. We strip the encryption layer without re-rendering or modifying the document content. Pages, hyperlinks, fonts and resolution are preserved exactly.
Are my PDFs safe on this site?
